Ostergaard Acoustical Associates (OAA) is seeking a senior engineer / consultant with 5 to 10 years of experience to join our firm in Woodbridge, New Jersey.  OAA has been providing independent and unbiased acoustical engineering and design services for over five decades.  We offer competitive employee benefits including compensation, commission on managed projects, health/vision/dental insurance, vacation and sick pay, and 6% 401k matching. We are seeking an experienced consultant to join our firm.  The candidate should be passionate about acoustics and noise control, enjoy solving challenging problems, and be able to communicate and understand technical details.  The position involves working closely with a team across a variety of environmental, industrial, and architectural acoustics projects in a support and project management role.  Projects involve issues such as HVAC noise and vibration control, room acoustics, sound isolation, and environmental noise modeling.  The position comprises a mix of field survey work and in-house acoustical analyses. Qualifications: - At least 5 years of experience in the acoustics field. - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture, engineering, or science. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. Job Responsibilities: - Manage acoustical projects, including acoustical analyses, preparing written communication, attending client and public meetings, managing schedules and deadlines, allocation of resources, delegating tasks, communicating with clients, proposal preparation, and determining appropriate project scope and budget. - Work with OAA staff to review project design drawings, specifications, and submittals; analyze projects; carry out analyses; develop interior and exterior acoustical models; and carry out field sound surveys and testing according to standards, defined protocol, and good practice. - Be able to solve acoustical issues and convey results to architects/engineer/developer clients. - Be organized; reliable; and able to manage, schedule, and coordinate multiple tasks. - Occasional travel, night work, and weekend work may be required (compensatory time is provided as appropriate). - Other project-related tasks as assigned. Preferred: - Engineer-in-Training certificate, Professional Engineer license or plan to obtain licensure, and/or INCE Board Certification. - Experience with acoustical modeling software such as CadnaA and EASE. We seek highly motivated, self-starting individuals to join our dynamic team. This consultant position contributes to the design and development of a wide range of projects, including performing arts centers, multi-family residential, hospitality and resorts, municipal, educational facilities, sports and recreational centers, healthcare, military, and more. The position includes involvement in all phases of the design process, from project proposal to final systems checkout. Primary responsibilities include the ability to manage a project from beginning to end with minimal guidance. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluate and effectively communicate technical design solutions to design team members, owners, and contractors.
  • Select equipment, cabling and pathways required for Audio-Video systems.
  • Prepare professional reports and calculations, communicating the team’s design recommendations directly with clients.
  • Prepare drawings/sketches and project specifications.
  • Conduct construction site visits for system checkout and compliance evaluation.
  • Successfully manage the project’s technical requirements, deadlines, deliverables, and budget.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
  • 1+ years of engineering experience in audio-video system engineering, theater technology and/or acoustical systems.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical, architectural or mechanical engineering; theater technology or recording arts; or a related industry degree.
  • Experience in the building design and construction industry.
  • Prior working knowledge of Revit (1+ year) or become proficient within 6 months of hire required.
  • Experience with creating AV and/or theater technology system one-line diagrams and understanding signal flow.
  • Understanding acoustical concepts and desigin principles.
