Responsibilities
Gather and analyze acoustical data including field measurements of reverberation time, sound transmission, impact isolation, vibration, and mechanical noise.
Design for Architectural Acoustics, Sound Isolation, Equipment Noise and Vibration Control, Environmental Acoustics, Industrial Noise Control, Forensic Site;
Investigation, and Computer Modeling and Auralization.
Coordinate with other disciplines both in-house and out-of-house, including architectural, interior design, audio visual, MEP and structural.
Prepare drawings, sketches, and reports to document findings and convey recommendations;
Available for travel (10-20%).
Participation in the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) or Institute of Noise Control Engineers (INCE) is encouraged.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to work a hybrid (office & remote) schedule
• Ability to learn new skills and work effectively with all acoustic team members
• Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience and expertise in structural vibration measurement, design, and control preferred.
• Prioritizes effectively, have good follow-through, and practice self-implemented quality control measures.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree with a specialty in Acoustics preferred.
Course work with a focus in architectural acoustics or noise control is required.

• Experience with REVIT preferred.
• Current or previous student membership in ASA and INCE preferred
• For early-career applicants, experience with INSUL, Vibro-Acoustics Design, SoundPlan, or EASE preferred

Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Environmental Services practice seeks a Junior to Intermediate Acoustics/Noise Consultant to support our expanding U.S. environmental acoustics and noise practice. In this role you would collaborate with our scientists and engineers supporting clients in a variety of sectors, including the energy and power, site development and planning, transportation, and federal markets. The acoustics/noise team provides support throughout project development, construction, and operational phases with a full suite of specialized technical services including planning, design, monitoring, modeling, permitting, public outreach, expert witness, and post-construction studies.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to noise/acoustics projects and tasks from proposal to completion, working with the acoustics team to deliver projects on schedule, and within scope and budget.
  • Conduct technical analysis, modeling, and measurement.
  • Participate in or lead site visits, field noise measurements surveys, post-processing of measurement data, and development of predictive noise models.
  • Analyze and interpret acoustical modeling results, evaluate noise mitigation measures, and document the results of acoustical analyses through development of technical reports.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Solid understanding of the fundamentals of acoustics and noise control is required. Knowledge of and experience in environmental acoustics/noise assessments is preferred.
  • Experience with acoustical modeling software (e.g., CadnaA, TNM, or similar) and technical tools to support acoustics/noise analyses (spreadsheets, GIS.)
  • Familiarity with acoustic measurement practices, software, and instrumentation (sound level meters).
  • Experience reviewing local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Vibration measurement experience is not required but would be beneficial. Experience with underwater noise (hydroacoustic) measurements and/or modeling would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with scientific programming languages for data processing and analysis (Matlab, Python) would be beneficial.
  • Experience working on multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.
  • Strong work ethic, high ethical and quality standards, and a desire for team success.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in acoustics, engineering, physical sciences, or a related field is required. Coursework in acoustics preferred.
  • Two to six years of progressively responsible experience with technical specialization in acoustics and noise assessment.

  • Familiarity with noise and vibration data acquisition practices and software.
  • Experience with building acoustics testing, including ASTC, AIIC and NC.

Job Description

We are seeking an acoustical engineer to fill the position of Senior Consultant in our Kailua, Hawaii office.  The successful candidate will have a BS or MS in a field of engineering with at least four years of experience in acoustical consulting.  The Consultant will conduct field measurements, develop recommendations for room acoustics, airborne and structure-borne sound insulation, and perform HVAC system noise and vibration control engineering.  In addition, the Senior Consultant will conduct environmental noise assessment studies, including the development of noise mitigation.  Experience in the design of audio-visual systems would be a plus.  In addition, a Senior Consultant is responsible for preparing design documents, participating in project design team meetings, coordinating with other design team members concerning acoustical design details, developing acoustical criteria for different types of facilities, and preparing proposals for new work.  A working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit is desirable.  Experience in the use of various sound level instruments is essential. POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for entry-level or early-career acoustical consultants for our San Francisco and San Jose offices. Working at Salter offers opportunities to quickly contribute to the firm and to work on a wide variety of projects. We provide mentorship and on-the-job training for new consultants, but also expect them to have a high degree of independence. Job functions include:
