The Greenbusch Group is a multi-disciplinary engineering and consulting firm based in the Interbay neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. The Acoustical Department is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to fill the position of Acoustician to support a wide variety of interesting projects. This particular position is in our Portland, Oregon office.

The Greenbusch Acoustical Department provides the following services:

  • Environmental noise and vibration (industrial, construction, etc.).
  • HVAC noise and vibration (building systems, noise code compliance, etc.).
  • Building acoustics (sound isolation, reverberation control, etc.).
  • Test and measurement (environmental noise, building acoustics, vibration, etc.).

At a minimum, the Acoustician would initially be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Review building plans and analyze acoustical characteristics such as reverberation, sound isolation, HVAC system noise and vibration, structure borne sound transfer, etc.
  • Develop acoustical recommendations to satisfy design criteria and coordinate with the design team.
  • Develop design narratives and coordination memoranda, as required, to support the design process.
  • Perform environmental noise/vibration assessments using modeling software and manual calculations.
  • Conduct short-term and long-term acoustical measurements.
  • Lift 50 pounds and be able to transport measurement equipment to and from measurement sites.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Five years of experience as a consulting acoustician
    • Acoustics-specific education can count towards this experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, mathematics, physical science or related field.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written, and a high appreciation for quality customer service.
  • Self-motivated, able to manage own schedule, coordinate multiple projects, and reliably meet deadlines.

Desired skills:

  • Experience with basic scientific testing protocols, data acquisition, data interpretation and reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze acoustical data including field measurements of reverberation time, sound transmission, impact isolation, vibration, and mechanical noise.
  • Design for Architectural Acoustics, Sound Isolation, Equipment Noise and Vibration Control, Environmental Acoustics, Industrial Noise Control, Forensic Site Investigation, and Computer Modeling and Auralization.
  • Coordination with other disciplines both in-house and out-of-house, including architectural, interior design, audio visual, MEP and structural.
  • Prepare drawings, sketches, and reports to document findings and convey recommendations
  • Project management and client coordination.
  • Lead and direct technical staff and consultants.
  • Educate and share expertise with team members.
  • Availability for travel (10-20%).
  • Participation in the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) or Institute of Noise Control Engineers (INCE) is encouraged.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD, INSUL, AIM or VA Design, and modeling software including EASE or ODEON.
  • Experience with REVIT or SoundPlan beneficial.
  • Experience and expertise in structural vibration measurement, design, and control beneficial.
  • Membership in ASA and INCE preferred.
  • Must prioritize effectively, have good follow-through, and practice self-implemented quality control measures.
  • Able to listen and demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills.

 Education/Experience

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Course work with a focus in architectural acoustics or noise control is preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Physics or other discipline with a coursework focus on architectural acoustics and noise control beneficial.

DLAA is seeking an acoustical consultant/engineer for a position in the firm’s Denver, Colorado or Kailua, Hawaii office. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field of engineering or science, all levels of experience in acoustical consulting are encouraged to apply.

The consultant will be an active member of our technical staff and will work under the direction of the firm’s Senior and Principal Consultants. He or she will be responsible for conducting field measurements (sound transmission loss, impact noise insulation, reverberation time, environmental noise, etc.), conducting acoustical analyses and developing recommendations for room acoustics, airborne and structure-borne sound insulation, and performing HVAC system noise and vibration control engineering. A working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and acoustical modeling software such as EASE, Cadna-A, AIM, and TRANE is a definite plus.
