DLAA is seeking an acoustical consultant/engineer for a position in the firm’s Denver, Colorado or Kailua, Hawaii office. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field of engineering or science, all levels of experience in acoustical consulting are encouraged to apply.

The consultant will be an active member of our technical staff and will work under the direction of the firm’s Senior and Principal Consultants. He or she will be responsible for conducting field measurements (sound transmission loss, impact noise insulation, reverberation time, environmental noise, etc.), conducting acoustical analyses and developing recommendations for room acoustics, airborne and structure-borne sound insulation, and performing HVAC system noise and vibration control engineering. The consultant will be responsible for preparing design documents, writing reports, participating in design team meetings, coordinating with other design team members concerning acoustical design details, and developing acoustical criteria for different types of facilities. A working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and acoustical modeling software such as EASE, Cadna-A, AIM, and TRANE is a definite plus.

Direct contact and coordination with clients are important aspects of the position, as they are for all D. L. Adams Associates employees. Excellent verbal and writing skills are required and people skills must be top notch. Participation in professional organizations, such as the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), the Institute for Noise Control Engineering (INCE), the Audio Engineering Society (AES), etc. is encouraged.  Our people are expected to attend the meetings and conferences of these organizations to remain at the forefront of the technology.

Working under the direction of the Principal Consultants, a Senior Consultant conducts field measurements and develops recommendations for room acoustics, airborne and structure-borne sound insulation, and HVAC system noise and vibration control engineering. The Senior Consultant will serve as Project Manager for many of the firm’s projects and be responsible for preparing design documents, writing reports, participating in project design team meetings, coordinating with other design team members concerning acoustical design details, developing acoustical criteria for different types of facilities, and preparing proposals for new work. A working knowledge of acoustical modeling software such as EASE, Cadna-A, AIM, and TRANE is definite plus. Experience in the use of sound level instrumentation is essential. The ideal candidate will maintain client relationships and provide efficient design coordination with owners and other design professionals. Excellent verbal and written skills are a must and exceptional people skills are essential.

Wilson Ihrig is an internationally renowned acoustics, noise, and vibration consulting firm based in the San Francisco Bay Area with additional offices in Los Angeles, New York City, and Seattle. Our work covers a wide array of projects including architectural, public transportation with an emphasis in rail transit, environmental, forensics, construction, structural vibration, and whole‐building vibration isolation.

We are currently seeking a qualified acoustician for an Associate or Senior Consultant position which would be based out of our Emeryville, CA office. Education and experience should be commensurate with the position you are interested in, typically, 3 to 7 years and 6 to 10 years, respectively.

This is a full‐time position (nominal 35‐hour workweek) with benefits that include health care, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, and a good work/life balance. Nominal salary: $65,000 to $90,000 per year, based on qualifications. The successful applicant must be an independent, reliable, and mature individual who is a self‐starter and thrives
in both in‐office and outdoor environments.

Your contributions will include, but will not be limited to:

  •  Acoustical and vibration measurements, usually in the field
  •  Noise and vibration technical analyses and computer modeling
  •  Preparation and/or support of reports (writing and graphics) in clear, concise English
  • Senior Consultant will be expected to have frequent client interaction and actively engage in business
    development efforts.
    Minimal Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Acoustics, Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or other discipline with coursework related to acoustics and vibration
  • Direct, relatable experience to match the level of position you are seeking
  • Ability to work collaboratively, take direction, and ask questions a must
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word and at least one acoustic software package such as EASE, CadnaA, SoundPLAN, TNM
  • Working knowledge of CAD will be considered a plus

Responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze acoustical data including field measurements of reverberation time, sound transmission, impact isolation, vibration, and mechanical noise.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience with REVIT or SoundPlan beneficial.
  • Experience and expertise in structural vibration measurement, design, and control beneficial.
  • Membership in ASA and INCE preferred.
  • Must prioritize effectively, have good follow-through, and practice self-implemented quality control measures.
  • Able to listen and demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills.

 Education/Experience

  • Possess a Bachelor’sDegree in Acoustics, Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Course work with a focus in architectural acoustics or noise control is preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Physics or other discipline with a coursework focus on architectural acoustics and noise control beneficial.
