Associate Acoustical Consultant

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities:
Act as an assistant project manager responsible for coordinating Waveguide's acoustics consulting services as part of the project team. Provide technical support to assist project teams with planning and design for new building construction and renovation projects.
Coordinate project requirements with internal and external teams.
Develop acoustical criteria, acoustical analysis and modeling for different project types.
Prepare acoustical recommendations.
Write reports and specifications.
Provide technical oversight and quality assurance of project deliverables.
Document client processes for consistent application across multiple projects within a standardized environment.
Assist the project team with project delivery, including project set up, meeting preparation and participation, internal and cross-discipline design reviews, report writing, and general coordination.
Build relationships that empower clients. Be responsive to client needs.
Take ownership of projects and the processes. Challenge ideas and find ways to improve work products and processes.
Pursue ongoing professional growth and development of technical skills.

Qualifications
A four-year college degree in engineering, architecture or physics, and three to four years of professional consulting experience as an acoustical consultant in architectural acoustics.
Experience in room acoustics, sound isolation, and building systems noise and vibration control is required.
Ability to produce project-related drawings and documentation to convey acoustic recommendations.
Extensive knowledge of HVAC noise prediction software.
Extensive knowledge of current acoustic standards, building codes and practices.
In-depth knowledge of the construction industry and construction processes.
Ability to apply sustainable design practices to projects.
Strong verbal and written communications skills; ability to write and convey technical information in written reports in a clear, concise manner; ability to present clear and concise recommendations during consultant coordination meetings.
Ability to work independently and proficiency with Microsoft Office software.

Acoustical Engineer - Los Angeles

We are growing our Acoustical Team and are looking for qualified candidates with 2 to 10 years of industry experience to fill available positions (Acousticians, Senior Acousticians) in our Los Angeles office. Looking for motivated engineers who have a desire to interact with clients, manage projects, and effectively communicate information in everyday language. We pride ourselves on pushing the boundaries of content delivery and advancing the field of both architectural and environmental acoustical consulting.
We consult on a variety of building types, including multi-family residential, K-12 education, higher education, hospitals, recording studios, fitness studios, performance arts facilities, houses of worship, and offices. Our services address sound isolation, room acoustics, building systems engineering analyses, and environmental noise monitoring. We work with Architects, Engineers, Building Owners, Developers, and other Consultants on issues relating to sound and vibration in buildings.
Responsibilities include:
• Reviewing architectural, MEP, and structural drawings
• Developing recommendations, details, and comments for the project team
• Conducting measurements and analyzing data for environmental noise and vibration, HVAC noise, room acoustics, and sound isolation
This position requires:
• Experience using AutoCAD, Revit, and acoustical modeling software including CATT-Acoustic, ODEON, AIM, CadnaA, or equivalent software.
• Experience with MS Office and related products
• Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Acoustics, Physics, Engineering, Architecture, or related field with an emphasis on Acoustics preferred.
• Use of ladders and ability to visit construction sites, carry equipment, etc.
• Work occasional late nights or early mornings to conduct measurements
• Potential travel within the western U.S.

Kirkegaard Associates is seeking a consultant with senior-level experience in noise and vibration control, and substantial experience in sound isolation and architectural acoustics. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to work in the performing arts and a willingness to work on a diversity of projects; an interest in developing and maintaining client relationships; and a commitment to being a collaborative, efficient and effective member both internally and externally.
This position will be located in our Chicago office. Responsibilities include:
Acoustics design consulting and project management of noise/vibration control, sound isolation and room acoustics projects
Supervising and coordinating the work of others and coordinating work with architects, engineers, theater consultants and other disciplines in the built environment
Analyzing data and working internally to help solve complex technical challenges and problems
Managing project teams for efficient and effective delivery of consulting services
Working remotely with principals, consultants and specialists in other office locations
Financial forecasting and control of projects to keep them within budget
Building client relationships, pursuing new projects and contributing to proposal and qualifications submissions
Providing technical guidance and mentoring to consultants, specialists and interns
Participating in industry events and conferences to contribute to the business and the technical field broadly
The ideal candidate will have
Seven to 10 years relevant experience in acoustics consulting
Experience in the measurement and analysis of complex noise and vibration projects
A proven track record as a project manager on phased projects from programming through commissioning
High-level thinking and visualization skills with an orientation for design and creative problem solving
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex issues and problems with clarity
A flexible, collaborative approach to work, both within the firm and with members of design teams
Substantial experience communicating with general contractors, sub-contractors (HVAC, Electrical, Drywall and Framing) and client project managers during construction administration process including field visits, submittal review and RFI responses.
Some experience in business development with the successful preparation of proposals for small to medium-sized projects
Proficiency (or ability to readily learn) applications such as REVIT, AutoCAD, Rhino and EASE, CATT, or Odeon; experience with Matlab, Grasshopper and/or Audition desired
Experience as a musician, public speaker, or actor
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, architectural engineering, physics, a related engineering field or acoustics
Master’s degree in architecture, acoustics, physics or mechanical engineering desired.

Acoustical Consultant

With offices in San Francisco, San Jose, California, and Honolulu, HI, Charles M. Salter Associates, Inc. is an acoustical consulting and low-voltage systems design firm (AV, telecom, security). We have full-time acoustical consulting positions for recent college graduates (consultant) and individuals with 3 to 5 years of experience (senior consultant).

We consult on a variety of building types, including multi-family residences, educational facilities, hospitals, performing arts facilities, and offices. Our services address sound isolation, room acoustics, HVAC system noise and vibration, environmental noise analyses, and vibration studies. We work with architects, building owners, and other consultants on issues relating to sound and vibration in buildings.

These positions offer opportunities for self-starters to quickly contribute to the firm and work on a wide variety of projects. Job functions include:

• Analyzing project drawings, such as architectural, mechanical, and structural plans
• Developing recommendations for architects and other consultants
• Conducting measurements and analyzing data for environmental noise and vibration, HVAC noise, reverberation times, reflection patterns, and sound isolation
• Presenting technical information in clear language and graphics

We will train and provide direction, but also expect a high degree of independence. We are looking for people who can take on tasks and think critically about next steps. This position requires attention to detail, report writing, and interaction with clients. It also requires field visits to construction sites, use of ladders, and occasional late night or early morning outings to collect sound data.
