NCAC Manufacturer Technical Lunch: ROCKFON

June 7, 2022
12:30 – 1:15 p.m. ET

The NCAC Manufacturer Technical Lunch series provides NCAC members the opportunity to learn more about NCAC sponsor manufacturers and connect with other NCAC members. Sessions will provide technical updates and information and will include a 20-minute Q&A from attendees.

The June 7 session is hosted by ROCKFON.

Acoustic Ceilings, HVAC Plenum Noise and Complying with Background Noise Requirements.

Which acoustic ceiling panels attenuate HVAC plenum noise the most? What ASHREA research and AHRI standards say on the topic may surprise you. Overall ceiling system attenuation depends on the absorption provided by the panels, the malleability of the panel surface to seal leaks along the suspension grid and panel weight.  Most ceiling panels perform the same and the results of common test methods such as ASTM E90 (STC) and ASTM E1414 (CAC) do not accurately predict background sound levels in rooms. Rockfon will review the ASHREA/AHRI foundational research conducted by the National Research Council of Canada and the industry-accepted prediction method when the noise source is HVAC equipment above an acoustic ceiling. A new Rockfon whitepaper on the topic and three-step design guideline will show how to successfully select the right acoustic ceiling and HVAC equipment to achieve desired background noise levels.
